For many, learning to sing is the beginning of a passionate relationship with their voice that can last a lifetime, but it can be frustrating, trying to find an opportunity to use these new found or developing skills in their most obvious form – live performances.
To this end, many years ago the School began performance nights to give pupils the chance to sing in front of a real audience.
This developed into the unique 'Pop Choir' En Masse, that has performed all over the country as well as releasing two singles and an album. Indeed, the first single 'One' was featured on local news when it outsold artists like Boyzone and Elton John, in the area it was released, one Christmas. It went on to be the most requested song on the local radio station’s 'selector' show.
Membership of En Masse requires a huge commitment in time, for both regular rehearsals and live gigs, as well as needed to pass an audition to join, so this year the school has returned to it’s roots by reintroducing the original performance nights.
Pupils will be able to register their interest in performing one or more songs, on their own or with other singers, to a backing track or acoustic accompaniment, as a variety of specially organized events across the year. These events will be open to the public and vocal students are encouraged to bring friends and family for support!
If you're interested in signing up, please contact one of the school’s branches or visit www.enmasse.org.uk for more information. You can also check back here for an up to date list of scheduled events.
