Over the years that The Southern School of Popular Singing has been open, we have built an outstanding reputation for working with younger singers.
Whilst it is fair to say that the more intricate parts of vocal technique may be a little beyond toddlers, we do have students from 6 years old upwards and are happy to teach someone younger as long as their attention span will allow!
We believe the key to succeeding with younger singers is not to patronize them with “children’s” songs that don’t interest them, but to get them to sing the songs that drive them, but to sing them well and with good, safe techniques that will develop in time into a healthy basis for their adult voices. |
All our vocal coaches are CRB checked and most have worked with our junior performance division, The E Minor Pop Academy.
The E Minor Pop Academy runs every Saturday from 10am to 3pm, at venues in Southampton and Salisbury, teaching 8 to 16 year olds, lead and harmony vocal techniques as well as choreography for a range of new and classic pop songs. It is equally suited for boys and girls with broad range of songs for both.
The groups prepare a set list of great songs, then perform them in regular professional live shows across the year. The standard of these shows has to be seen to be believed. They are NOT the kind of children’s pop concert which many parents have come to accept, but instead a dynamic and entertaining show, filled with great voices, huge harmony and funky dance routines.
With professional sound systems, radio microphones and a full lighting rig, these show are great preparation for a career in live performance, and regularly sell out 300+ seater venues, with standing ovations for the encores. Although we are proud of every member of E Minor Pop Academy, many of them have individual voice lessons at The Southern School of Popular Singing to make the absolute best of their performance potential.
